For the love of moths…

I have a newfound love for moths….yes you heard it MOTHS.

Here I will explain…..

So I am a big knitwear fan and kept finding tiny wee holes in my jumpers and cardis. Of course, it is the beloved household moth having a munch. A lovely friend suggested we go to a workshop to learn how to mend our moth holes. Thanks to the wonderful Sewing Smith I have learned to ‘visibly mend’ these holes, give life back to my knitwear and added colour to these pieces whilst doing so.

Suzy! What on earth has this got to do with therapy I hear you ask…..

Well like the Japanese pottery method of Kintsugi (see my other blog), visible mending embraces our ‘dark holes’. It shows us how we can turn them into something colourful and beautiful and not to be scared of them. It also shows us how we can reinvent ourselves and wear our ‘moth holes’ with pride.

There is still so much I want to learn about visible mending. My darning is a bit wonky, its far from ‘perfect’ but I am having a fabulous time and enjoying what it teaches me about life.

I smile every time I see a moth now and say hello and a little thank you.
